Rehoming Beloved Adult Golden Retriever: A Loving Home Sought for a Gentle Companion214
With a heavy heart, I am rehoming my beloved Golden Retriever, Gus. This isn't a decision I've taken lightly; it's born out of a change in my personal circumstances that unfortunately means I can no longer provide him with the time and attention he deserves. Gus is a truly exceptional dog, and finding him the perfect forever home is my utmost priority.
Gus is a seven-year-old Golden Retriever, neutered and up-to-date on all his vaccinations. He's a stunning example of the breed, with a thick, luxurious golden coat and the characteristically sweet, gentle nature Golden Retrievers are famous for. He's a medium-sized dog, healthy and active, although his energy levels are moderating with age, making him a perfect companion for a variety of lifestyles.
Beyond his stunning appearance, Gus possesses a heart of gold (pun intended!). He's incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than cuddling up on the couch for a movie night or going for leisurely walks in the park. He's exceptionally well-behaved and has excellent house manners. He's reliably house-trained and rarely barks unless he has a good reason (usually, it involves the arrival of a friendly visitor!). He's generally gentle and patient, making him a wonderful dog for families with older, respectful children. He's also proven himself to be tolerant of other dogs he's met, exhibiting a playful but respectful demeanor. However, a proper introduction with any existing pets would be crucial to ensure a smooth transition. We haven't had the opportunity to test him around cats.
Gus's temperament is one of his most endearing qualities. He's remarkably calm and even-tempered, rarely exhibiting anxious or aggressive behaviour. He's a fantastic listener, happy to simply sit by your side and soak up your company. He's always eager to please, making him relatively easy to train, although his intelligence sometimes manifests in finding creative ways to outsmart simple commands – a charming trait that adds to his unique personality!
His playful side is still very much present. He loves fetch, albeit at a more relaxed pace than he used to, and enjoys gentle tug-of-war games with soft toys. He's always up for a good belly rub and readily accepts head scratches with enthusiastic tail wags. He's particularly fond of squeaky toys and often carries them around like treasured possessions.
Ideally, I'm looking for a home that can offer Gus plenty of love, attention, and companionship. A home with a securely fenced yard would be ideal, allowing him to enjoy some safe playtime. However, regular walks are equally important to him, providing mental stimulation and physical exercise. While he enjoys the company of other dogs, he's equally happy as a solo companion, making him a suitable pet for a single person, a couple, or a family.
I've compiled a detailed record of Gus's veterinary history, including vaccination records, details of any previous health concerns (he's had minor age-related arthritis which is easily managed with supplements), and his feeding schedule. This will be provided to his new owner to ensure a seamless transition. I've also included some of his favorite toys and a comfortable bed in the hopes that these familiar items will help him settle into his new home more quickly.
This rehoming process is incredibly important to me. I want to ensure Gus finds a loving and stable home where he'll be cherished and cared for as he deserves. I'm therefore very selective about potential adopters. I will be conducting a thorough screening process, including a home visit, to ensure the new home is suitable for his needs and personality. I’ll be asking potential adopters questions to determine their experience with dogs, their lifestyle, and their ability to provide the necessary care, attention, and resources for Gus. This isn't just about finding him a home; it's about finding him a family.
Please don't contact me if you are looking for a dog for breeding or for any other reason than a loving and permanent home. This is a heartbreaking decision, and I am committed to doing what is best for Gus. If you believe you can offer him the loving and stable home he deserves, I encourage you to contact me. Please tell me about yourself, your lifestyle, and your experience with dogs. The more information you provide, the better I can assess whether your home is a good fit for Gus.
Thank you for taking the time to read Gus's story. I hope to find him the perfect home very soon.
