Homemade Dog Treats: A Live Baking Session for Happy Pups!216

Hey everyone, and welcome to my live stream! I'm so excited to be here with you all today to bake up a batch of delicious and healthy homemade dog treats. As a huge dog lover – I have three furry friends myself – I know how important it is to give our pups the best possible nutrition. And what better way to do that than with treats you make yourself, knowing exactly what's going into them?

Today's menu features three different recipes, catering to different dietary needs and preferences. We’ll be making peanut butter and banana cookies, sweet potato chews, and chicken and apple mini muffins. These recipes are not only super easy to follow, but they're also packed with healthy ingredients that your dogs will adore. No nasty preservatives, artificial flavors, or fillers here!

Before we get started, let me emphasize the importance of using dog-friendly ingredients. Many things that are safe for humans can be toxic to dogs. Always check if an ingredient is safe for canine consumption before adding it to your treats. Chocolate, onions, garlic, grapes, and raisins are just a few things to absolutely avoid. If you're ever unsure, it's always best to err on the side of caution and leave it out.

Now, let's dive into our first recipe: the peanut butter and banana cookies! This is a classic for a reason. It's simple, delicious, and most dogs go absolutely bonkers for it. We'll need:
1 cup whole wheat flour (you can substitute with oat flour or a blend for variety)
½ cup rolled oats
½ cup peanut butter (xylitol-free is crucial! Xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs.)
1 ripe banana, mashed
¼ cup water (you may need slightly more or less depending on the consistency)
1 egg (optional, but adds binding)

First, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, and peanut butter. Mix well. Then, add the mashed banana, water, and egg (if using) and stir until a dough forms. If it’s too dry, add a little more water; if it’s too wet, add a little more flour. Roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thickness and use cookie cutters to create fun shapes. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let them cool completely before giving them to your furry friends.

Next up: sweet potato chews! These are a great option for dogs who need a longer-lasting chew. We’ll be using:
1 large sweet potato, peeled and thinly sliced
Olive oil spray

Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Lightly spray the sweet potato slices with olive oil. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 2-3 hours, flipping halfway through, until they are completely dehydrated and chewy. These will keep for several days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Finally, we’ll be making chicken and apple mini muffins. These are perfect for smaller dogs or as training treats. Ingredients are:
1 cup cooked chicken, shredded (no bones!)
½ cup unsweetened applesauce
1 egg
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
A pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a mini muffin tin. In a bowl, combine the chicken, applesauce, and egg. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and cinnamon (if using). Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fill the muffin tins about ¾ full and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool completely before serving.

Remember, moderation is key when giving your dog treats. These should be supplemental to their regular diet, not a replacement. Always supervise your dog when they are enjoying their treats to ensure they are chewing safely and not choking. And of course, observe your dog for any signs of allergies or adverse reactions after trying a new treat.

I hope you enjoyed this live baking session! I’d love to see pictures of your furry friends enjoying these homemade treats. Share them on social media using the hashtag #HomemadeDogTreats.
